Uzbekistan pavilion wins gold at the German Design Award 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Under the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, significant efforts are being made to promote the country’s national cultural heritage on the international stage, develop contemporary art and architecture, and strengthen international cooperation.
The prestigious German Design Award 2025 once again highlights Uzbekistan’s substantial contribution to the global architecture and design industry.
A delegation from the Uzbekistan Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts took part in the official German Design Award 2025 ceremony. During the event, the Uzbekistan Pavilion—designed for Expo 2025 in Osaka by the architectural firm ATELIER BRÜCKNER—was honored with the highest award, gold, in the category "Excellent Architecture – Fairs and Exhibitions." Notably, more than 1,000 projects were submitted in the "Architecture and Interior" category, yet only five were awarded gold.
Named the "Garden of Knowledge," the pavilion embodies Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage and its commitment to sustainable development. This prestigious recognition reaffirms the pavilion’s exceptional architectural and conceptual quality, showcasing Uzbekistan’s growing influence in the global architectural and design community.
Chairperson of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan and Commissioner of the Pavilion, Gayane Umerova, emphasized:
"For centuries, Uzbekistan has been a crossroads of civilizations where science and culture flourished along the Silk Road. Our pavilion reflects the country’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, as well as the long-term strategy of the ACDF to support cultural initiatives both nationally and internationally. Recognition by the German Design Award is not just an architectural achievement but a testament to our dedication to preserving heritage, advancing progressive design, and fostering international cultural dialogue."
As part of the Uzbekistan National Pavilion’s activities at Expo 2025 in Japan, a series of large-scale cultural and educational events will be held to highlight the country’s unique heritage. One of the key events will be a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan in collaboration with Richter Trio, set to take place at the Expo Hall before an audience of over a thousand guests. Additionally, an inspiring panel discussion on the role of art in sustainable development will be organized, featuring the Bukhara Biennale as a case study to illustrate how creative initiatives can serve as catalysts for change.
A true celebration of tradition, Uzbekistan National Day will commence with a grand flag-raising ceremony, followed by a refined gala lunch and performances by the "Bahor" Ensemble and "Jazzirama." Environmental issues will also take center stage, with a particular focus on biodiversity restoration. The experience of reviving ecosystems in the Aral Sea region will be presented as part of the global movement towards harmonious coexistence with nature.
