Uzbekistan open their campaign against New Zealand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Asian U-17 champions DPR Korea will clash with hosts Mexico in the opening match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Morelia on Saturday.

The other Asian teams in the tournament, which runs from June 18 to July 10, are Uzbekistan, Japan and Australia.

DPR Korea beat Uzbekistan in the final of the AFC U-16 Championship last year to lift the teen silverware for the first time.

Coach Ri Song-ho told FIFA.com that the team’s collective effort was the key to greater success.

“I’m sure that we will be invincible if we can develop our own principle of play more concretely in the future,” he said.

“My future plan is that we won’t rest on the achievement of winning the Asian title, we will now make higher goals for our football development. Our next aim is a good result at the FIFA U-17 World Cup finals, and we will spare no efforts to heighten the development of Korean football."

Following Mexico, the Koreans will be next up against the Netherlands (21 June) and Congo (24 June).

Japan’s campaign starts the same day as DPR Korea against Jamaica in Monterrey. Japan lost to DPR Korea in the semifinals in Asia.

Coach Hirofumi Yoshitake stressed team work and unity.

"My opinion is my team does not have so-called star players," he said. "As a team they are very well organised and as a team they are in good condition. That is what is expected to carry us through."

Also in Japan’s group are France (21 June) and Argentina (24 June).

Uzbekistan open their campaign against New Zealand on 19 June, before playing the United States on 22 June and winding up the group stage against the Czech Republic on 25 June.

"I am glad that our team have done our country proud," said Uzbek coach Aleksey Evstafeev. "The boys played well and I hope they can graduate into our senior national team in the future."

Australia will be the last Asian team to start their tournament. They play against Cote d’Ivoire in their opening encounter on 20 June, going up next against Brazil (23 June) and Denmark (26 June).
