About 20 years ago Uzbekistan jointed the organization and since that time the country and the UN agencies cooperated to improve well-being of population.
The UN Country Office in Uzbekistan will hold several events in Tashkent, Nukus and Urgench to mark the UN Day on 23-25 October 2012.
The first event dedicated to the UN Day was a press conference in Tashkent, which briefed the participants on activities of the UN.
Acting UN Resident Coordinator Karl Kulessa briefed the participants on the UN activities in Uzbekistan, achievements in education, culture, healthcare, science and environment. Representatives of the World Bank, UN Women, UN Volunteers, UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNODC, UNFPA and UNAIDS also participated at the event.
On 24-25 October, the UN Country Office will hold events in Nukus and Urgench. Series of meetings with local youth will be organized. The meetings will be dedicated to the UN activities in Uzbekistan. The participants will discuss healthcare and environment, education, family issues.
The UN information office also plans to hold new talk-show Openhouseshow to discuss role of youth in work of the UN.
