Uzbekistan, Lithuania discuss development of ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov held negotiations with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Evaldas Ignatavičius in Vilnius on 19 November 2012, the press service of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said.

At the meeting, Evaldas Ignatavičius underlined that Uzbekistan and Lithuania mark the 20th anniversary of bilateral relations this year and the sides can be satisfied for growth of trade.

It was said that trade turnover between Lithuania and Uzbekistan made up 80.36 million lits (US$29.81 million) in January-August 2012, which grew by 43% year-on-year.

At the same time, Evaldas Ignatavičius underlined that potential opportunities for development of economic relations has not been exhausted. At the meeting, the sides discussed plans for a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the two countries on trade and economic cooperation in the first half of 2013.

Evaldas Ignatavičius expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for cooperation in transportation of cargo of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) from and into Afghanistan. He underlined that importance of inter-departmental cooperation with Uzbekistan in this area.

Vice-Minister of Lithuania said that Uzbekistan can use experience and knowledge of Lithuanian experts and Lithuania is ready accept representatives of border, customs, railway state services, as well as employees of logistics and other spheres from Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, the sides considered relations between Uzbekistan and European Union, implementation of EU strategy in Central Asia. The sides positively rated the EU proposal to create dialogue in high level on such issues as security with the participation of the countries of the region.

Evaldas Ignatavičius briefed his Uzbek counterpart on priorities of Lithuania during its Presidency at the EU Council in the second half of 2013 and underlined that Lithuania will support further development relations between EU and Central Asian states.
