Uzbekistan 08/02/2008 Uzbekistan leader visit to RF promotes collective security
The visit of the Uzbek leader "offered another opportunity to strengthen relations between Russia and Uzbekistan, the partners in the CSTO, and to achieve a new level of interaction in various directions, including security," Bordyuzha told reporters on Thursday.

He stressed, "The results of the visit promote further development and perfection of the entire collective security system in Central Asia." "It is not accidental that the presidents (of Russia and Uzbekistan) in their joint statement pointed out that the restoration of Uzbekistan’s membership in the CSTO enables forming the integral space of collective security, opening new opportunities to strengthen the organization’s potential," Bordyuzha noted.

He believes the visit will serve the purpose of "perfecting the CSTO activity," as some arrangements reached during the visit "apply directly to maters of allied relations in the collective security system." This refers, specifically, to "the further development of interaction between the foreign policy and defence agencies and cooperation in the military and military-technical areas in the interests of ensuring national and regional security," Bordyuzha said.
The CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
