Uzbekistan Launches Oncology Project with Gustave Roussy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The official launch ceremony of the “Gustave Roussy International – Uzbekistan” project was held at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Oncology and Radiology.
The event was attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health Eldor Adilov, a delegation led by Fabrice Barlesi, Director General of the French Gustave Roussy Institute, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and international oncology experts. Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to France, Nodir Ganiev, joined the ceremony via videoconference.
It was noted that the project is being implemented within the framework of agreements reached following the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to France last year. Its launch is based on arrangements made at the leadership level of both countries in Paris.
The project aims to introduce international standards into the oncology care system, improve clinical practice, and develop a modern management system in Uzbekistan’s healthcare sector.
Fabrice Barlesi, Director General of the Gustave Roussy Cancer Center, stated that participation in the implementation of Uzbekistan’s national oncology program is an important area of cooperation. According to him, the project includes knowledge exchange, specialist training, improved prevention and cancer screening, as well as joint scientific research.
Deputy Director of the center Dilshod Egamberdiev said that the key objectives of the project include early detection of cancer, improvement of screening programs, and advanced training of specialists in leading European medical centers. He also emphasized the importance of developing research activities in oncology.
Representative of the abdominal oncology surgery center Abbos Abdukadyrov said that the cooperation would enable the introduction of modern minimally invasive technologies and improve the level of complex surgical procedures. Oncologist Ilyos Ziyaev highlighted the introduction of an individualized approach to patients and access to modern targeted therapy protocols within the partnership with the French institute.
