Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan hold another meeting of energy and water ministers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 October, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan hosted a working meeting of the energy and water ministers from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

The meeting was attended by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Water Resources, Shavkat Khamrayev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. Also present were Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy, Talaybek Ibraev, and other senior officials. A guest participant was the Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Kamil Abbasov.

The main topic on the agenda was ensuring the stable operation of the countries’ water and energy systems during the upcoming autumn-winter season, with a particular focus on coordinating energy grid schedules.

Joint projects were reviewed, including the current status of construction of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant and discussions on maintaining water-energy balance.

Special attention was given to projects for building hydropower plants on the Chatkal River in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan, with technical support from specialists of the Chinese company CEEC.

At the end of the meeting, participants proposed organizing regular working group sessions and signing a "roadmap" for further project implementation. Relevant documents aimed at fostering cooperation in the water-energy sector were signed.
