Uzbekistan joins Hague Convention
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Hague, 5 October 1961)” on 4 April 2011.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 27 January 2011 and Senate approved the document on 25 March 2011.

Accession to Hague Convention will allow to legalize official documents, issued abroad, with one actions – putting apostille to document by the authorized body.

The procedure will simplify document turnover and decrease terms of providing official documents by legal entities and individuals of Uzbekistan and acknowledging them in the member states of the Convention.

The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. The document was signed in Hague on 5 October 1961.

It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states. Such a certification is called an apostille (French: certification). It is an international certification comparable to a notarisation in domestic law.
