Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan joined the Global Green Growth Institute on the initiative of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
On 7 February 2019, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution on joining the Agreement Establishing the Global Green Growth Institute, signed on 20 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan officially notified the Secretariat of this organization about this.
The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an international intergovernmental organization with headquarters in Seoul, established in 2012 with the goal of maintaining and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing and emerging market countries through development "Green economy" in a changing climate. Currently, GGGI is implementing 54 projects in more than 30 countries of the world.
The Republic of Uzbekistan, becoming the first member state of the Global Green Growth Institute among the CIS countries, plans to implement joint projects with GGGI, primarily in the Aral Sea region by attracting financial resources from the UN Green Climate Fund and other international donor organizations.
Profile ministries and departments of Uzbekistan also intend to use the advanced experience and scientific potential of GGGI in developing programs to combat climate change, improve water and environmental security and introduce green technologies into the country’s economy, hold joint thematic round tables and conferences.
Currently, it is planned to organize a visit of experts from the GGGI in March of this year to Uzbekistan to discuss practical cooperation and develop a joint strategy of interaction with donor organizations.
During the visit, the Institute’s experts will visit the Aral Sea region to get acquainted with the ongoing large-scale landscaping measures for the dried bottom of the Aral Sea, as well as the activities of the Multiparty Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the United Nations, initiated by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev.
In accordance with the Roadmap for development of cooperation with the Global Green Growth Institute, approved by the President of the country, it is planned to open a representative office of this institute in Tashkent with accreditation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The South Korean company Evergreen Motors Group expressed its willingness to provide an office for the representative office of the Institute in Uzbekistan at the building of the Uzbek-Korean business center, which will be constructed on Seoul street in Tashkent.
