Uzbekistan 06/10/2010 Uzbekistan, Italy hold political consultations in Rome
Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan led by Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov held negotiations with the Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini in Rome on 4 October 2010 within the fourth round of political consultations between Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and Italy.

Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry said that the sides exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of bilateral cooperation in politics, trade economic and culture-humanitarian spheres, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. In particular, the sides considered situation in Afghanistan, preserving peace and stability in Central Asia, ecologic threat.

Italian Foreign Minister underlined that Rome is considering Uzbekistan as important partner in Central Asia. Frattini highly rated current level of relations between Uzbekistan and Italy, interaction of two states within international organizations.

Uzbek Foreign Minister confirmed principle position on readiness of Uzbekistan to long-term and constructive cooperation with the European Union based on equality, non-intervention to internal affairs and mutual respect of interests. The Uzbek side underlined its support for implementation of the EU Strategy for Central Asia on condition that interest of each country will be taken into account.

During the consultations, the sides discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The sides underlined importance of development of interaction and exchange of experience between parliaments of Uzbekistan and Italy directed to boosting bilateral relations overall.

Stating that the level and volume of trade-economic and investment relations do not correspond potential of two states, the sides noted necessity to boost cooperation in this direction.

During the negotiations, it was underlined that Italian companies are expressing interest to participate in projects at Navoi free industrial and economic zone, in energy and hydro power projects, expanding trade and investment cooperation. Both sides underlined mutual interest to cooperation in banking-finance sector through exchange of experience and organization of internships and seminars.

The sides positively rated collaboration in culture-humanitarian sphere. The sides underlined with satisfaction that Turin University in Tashkent will give new stimulus to the Uzbek-Italian relations.

In the result of the consultations, the sides agreed to hold next round of consultations between foreign ministries in Tashkent in 2011.
