Uzbekistan introduces system of accounting of mobile devices from 1 April

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) –– Uzbekistan starts to implement a system of accounting of mobile devices from 1 April 2019. This was announced in Tashkent.

The State Unitary Enterprise “Republican Center for Control of Telecommunication Networks of Uzbekistan” was established as the operator of the mobile devices accounting system in the Republic of Uzbekistan, on the basis of which a system of accounting and registration of mobile devices is installed.

This system is connected to the networks of all telecom operators in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and interact online. Also, this system will act as a registrar of imported mobile devices, the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications said.

From 1 April, the automatic registration of all mobile devices used in the networks of GSM-operators of Uzbekistan will be held. There will be no charge for automatic device registration.

From subscribers, who are already using their mobile devices in the networks of local GSM-operators, no action is required to register their devices - registration actions will be performed by the system operator and telecom operators.

The system of accounting and registration of devices will limit the use of: 1) counterfeit devices - i.e. devices for which the IMEI code does not correspond to the actual model of the device, 2) devices in the “black” list, got into it due to theft or loss, 3) devices that have not passed the customs clearance procedure.

Before purchasing, it is recommended to check the status - correctness of the device’s IMEI-code on the official site of the system - UZIMEI.UZ.

Today in Uzbekistan, there are more than 22 million mobile subscribers, as well as more than 16 million mobile Internet users.

The accounting control system of mobile terminals will allow:

  • increase the level of prevention and detection of crimes related to the use of subscriber devices or in relation to them (theft).
  • restrict the illegal importation (smuggling) of subscriber devices into the Republic of Uzbekistan.
  • provide customers with subscriber devices the opportunity to check their status at the time of purchase in order to guarantee the quality of the goods being purchased and service.
  • protect the health of citizens by reducing the use of counterfeit subscriber devices that do not meet safety requirements.
  • ensure fair competition in the telecommunications market by significantly reducing the illegal traffic in smuggled and counterfeit subscriber devices.
