Uzbekistan introduces new customs duties to some home appliances

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan has introduced new rates of custom duties for several imported home appliances from 1 August 2013.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On introduction of changes and amendments to the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan “On additional measures on ordering foreign economic activity” from 5 August 2009” on 22 July 2013.

According to the document, Uzbekistan introduced combine import duty on import of TV-sets and CD and DVD players.

In particular, the combined import duty is introduced based on the diagonal of the display. The rate of customs duty for TV-set with diagonal of below 52 cm set at 30%, but not less than US$35 per unit, with diagonal of below 72 cm – 30%, but not less than US$45 per unit, with diagonal of over 72 cm – 30%, but not less than US$55 per unit.

Earlier, Uzbekistan used ad valorem (from customs price) customs duty at import of TV-sets, which made up 60%.

The Government of Uzbekistan also introduced combine customs duties for import of CD and DVD players with laser reading system. The rate makes up 30%, but not less than US$45 per unit.

Earlier, the single ad valorem customs duty for imported CD and DVD players were used in Uzbekistan. Its rate made up 45%.

The resolution also set customs duties’ rates for imported mobile phones at the rate of 30%, but not less than US$15 per unit.

The presidential resolution set import duties for food products, agriculture products, construction materials, home appliances, consumer goods, etc.
