Uzbekistan introduces “green” and “red” corridors for road transport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting in September, Uzbekistan will introduce a “green” and “red” corridor system at customs checkpoints for road transport. Initially, the system will be implemented at three border crossings: “Gishtkuprik” and “Zangiota” in Tashkent region, as well as “Daut-ata” in Karakalpakstan.
This initiative is part of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s decree issued on March 25, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of customs operations and accelerating their digitalization.
The two-corridor system will assign vehicles to one of the lanes based on risk analysis.
The green corridor allows expedited clearance for vehicles and cargo deemed low-risk, subject only to document verification.
The red corridor is designated for thorough inspections of high-risk vehicles, with selective checks conducted on certain other vehicles.
Customs officials will retain the authority to redirect vehicles from the green corridor to the red one based on profiling. All vehicles entering Uzbekistan will be assigned to a corridor only after undergoing an initial inspection.
Starting from 1 September 2026, the system will be gradually expanded to additional border crossings, depending on the results of the pilot project.
The concept of green and red corridors was discussed at a presidential meeting in late February, where various initiatives to improve customs control were considered. Among the proposals was a pilot program at major checkpoints, including separate lanes for passenger cars and buses.
