Uzbekistan holds 95th place in ICT Development Index
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan moved to the 95th place in the ICT Development Index (IDI). ITU published its flagship annual Measuring the Information Society Report.

The IDI is a standard tool that governments, operators, development agencies, researchers and others can use to measure the digital divide and compare ICT performance within and across countries.

The ICT Development Index is based on 11 ICT indicators, grouped in three clusters: access, use and skills. The Index covers over 190 economies of the world. The report said that Uzbekistan took the 95th place in IDI Index 2017. Last year, Uzbekistan was on the 110th place, but ITU revised Uzbekistan’s data and moved it to the 103rd place.

Uzbekistan took the 95th place in access cluster with index of 5.42 (98th place with index 4.96 in 2016).

The country was on 93rd place with index 3.93 in use cluster (103th place with index 3.23) and 87th place in skills cluster with index 6.04 (87th place with index 6.04).

The report said that the most dynamic country in terms of IDI ranking is Uzbekistan, which rose eight places overall between IDI 2016 and IDI 2017, from 103rd to 95th position, lifting its IDI value by 0.42 points, from 4.48 to 4.90. Uzbekistan made significant improvements in both access and use sub-indices.The most substantial contributions came from mobile-broadband subscriptions (use sub-index). The country’s overall IDI performance was, however, adversely affected by a fall in its recorded secondary enrollment, the report said. According to the report, number of fixed-telephone subscribers made up 11.34 per 100 inhabitants and to mobile telephone – 77.33 per 100 inhabitants. International internet bandwidth per user was 5682.64 bit/s.

About 43.87% of households possess computers in Uzbekistan, while 75.2% of households have access to internet at home.

At the same time, about 46.79% of population of Uzbekistan use Internet, the report said. Number of fixed broadband internet users reached 9.13 per 100 inhabitants.

Number of active mobile internet users in Uzbekistan made up 55.89 per 100 inhabitants, the report underlined.
