On 1 May, the UzDaewooAuto joint-stock company and the General Motors-Daewoo Auto and Technology (GMDAT) signed an accord on the development of the UzDaewooAuto company in Asaka, in eastern Andijon Region, and on producing spare parts locally.

As part of the accord, the UzDaewooAuto joint-stock company and the GMDAT signed a number of agreements, which will create an opportunity to implement new projects.

GMDAT President Michael Grimaldi said, "Uzbekistan is General Motors’ reliable partner. This agreement opens a new stage of cooperation between the GMDAT and the Uzavtosanoat joint-stock company. And most importantly, it will serve to step up the development of the car industry in Uzbekistan and the production of high-quality and competitive cars for the world market."

As part of the agreement, it is planned to continue the production of Nexia, Matiz and Damas cars in the Asaka car plant and to produce their new modifications, which will meet the Euro III standards, for the domestic and the CIS markets.

Moreover, the GMDAT will study prospects for producing new models taking into account the demand of the region, where the output of the UzDaewooAuto is sold.

The strategic partnership agreement includes training of personnel for the Uzbek plant. In line with the agreement, measures will be taken to further improve the quality of products and produce spare parts locally in the Asaka plant. It should be noted that at the end of the talks the both sides made a commitment to continue cooperation talks and conclude final agreements on new projects.
