Uzbekistan enters to top ten of global mobile communication development index – President
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently Uzbekistan enters to the first ten countries of the world in mobile communication development index, the Uzbek President said on Friday at the session of the government.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan held the session on 21 January 2011 to discuss social-economic development in 2010 and important priorities of economic programme in 2011.

Uzbek leader said that currently number of mobile communication users in Uzbekistan exceeds 19 million people, and it grew 200 times compared to 2000.

Ten years ago number of mobile communication users made up four people per 1,000 habitants and now this figure exceeds 600 people per 1,000 habitants, President Karimov said.

Islam Karimov said that positive trends also were observed in Internet segment and number of Internet users rose 1.6 times to 7.4 million people in 2010.

At the same time, he noted that prices for Internet services are decreasing. He said that internet prices were cut by 20% in 2010.

Speaking of tasks, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said that the task on development and modernization of telecommunication network was put. He said it is planned to introduce broadband and optic technologies, launch of 950 km of optic-fiber communication lines and expand data transfer networks in regional centers.

Islam Karimov said that it is planned to increase international internet channel four times in 2011 and increase number of fixed Internet users from 3 million to 3.5 million users. He added that broadband telecommunication users should be doubled to 100,000 users.
