Uzbekistan Elected to the FAO Council for the First Time

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 July 2025, elections for the 2028–2029 term of the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) were held in Rome. As a result, the Republic of Uzbekistan was unanimously elected to this prestigious body for the first time in its history.

The FAO Council comprises 49 member states elected for terms of up to three years, with consideration given to geographic balance. The Council is responsible for reviewing key issues related to the organization’s budget and programs, making major decisions, and developing recommendations for the FAO Conference.

Uzbekistan’s election to the Council reflects broad international recognition of the country’s far-reaching agricultural and food security reforms initiated under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It also underscores Uzbekistan’s growing role and engagement in global agricultural and food-related processes.

Membership in the Council will provide Uzbekistan with significant opportunities to contribute to shaping the global agricultural agenda, developing regulatory frameworks and international standards, advancing national and regional initiatives, and attracting additional financial and technical support for the implementation of priority projects.
