Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 November 2024, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance delegation met with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku.
The meeting included participation from Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and Rémy Rioux, Director-General of the French Development Agency.
During the discussions, Professor Sachs praised Uzbekistan’s efforts in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Furthermore, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on monitoring SDGs in Uzbekistan and a cooperation program aimed at enhancing the capacity of Uzbekistan’s regions in achieving these goals.
The MoU focuses on establishing strong ties between Uzbekistan and SDSN, preparing a subnational report on SDG progress across all regions of the country, identifying gaps with the involvement of SDSN’s international experts, and improving Uzbekistan’s standing in the global SDG rankings.
The memorandum also includes provisions for attracting US$200,000 in grant funding to support its implementation.
