Uzbekistan and UNESCO will mark 20th anniversary of cooperation. Uzbekistan signed agreement on accession to UNESCO on 26 October 1993. The sides fruitfully cooperated in implementation of several projects on preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The sides also work on developing and expanding cooperation in education, science and culture.

At the meeting, Tursunali Kuziev and Krista Pikkat discussed further issues of developing of cooperation between two states, including in preserving cultural heritage, development of education, science and culture.

Krista Pikkat expressed gratitude for the meeting and added that Uzbekistan is a country with rich cultural heritage. She said that UNESCO Office in Uzbekistan is planning to implement several projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Uzbekistan to preserve unique cultural monuments. The cooperation will focus on two directions – attracting donor countries for Uzbek culture and developing inter-cultural dialogue.

Krista Pikkat said that she is satisfied with the meeting with Minister and the sides solved issues on mutual cooperation. She said that UNESCO Office is proud to the sides achieved a lot in past. She expressed hope that the fruitful cooperation will continue in future. Pikkat stated that UNESCO wants to cooperate with Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan.
