Production of cotton yarn at textile companies last year fell 4.4% to 150,258 tonnes, with cotton fabric production down 21.7%, to 130,863 million cubic meters.

Uzbekistan produced 1.171 million tonnes of cotton fiber in 2006, 1.4% less than in 2005.

Uzbekistan is the sixth largest cotton producer and the second largest exporter in the world. The republic annually produces about 3.5 million tonnes of raw cotton and 1 million-1.2 million tonnes of cotton fiber. The republic exports over 75% of its cotton fiber production.
