Uzbekistan Considered for New Development Bank Membership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is among the countries being considered for possible accession as a shareholder of the New Development Bank (NDB), alongside Colombia and Ethiopia, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said at a press briefing, according to TASS.

He stated that the expansion of the bank’s membership is being discussed with the aim of strengthening its capital base and increasing its capacity for investment activities. According to him, the inclusion of new countries, including Uzbekistan, could make a meaningful contribution to the institution’s operations.

In April 2026, Uzbekistan’s potential participation in the NDB was already reviewed at a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. Lawmakers discussed a draft bill on the country’s accession to the agreement establishing the bank.

The document is viewed as an important step toward further economic development and continued policy of openness and investment attraction, taking into account national interests. If Uzbekistan joins the bank, it would gain expanded access to international investment resources and additional opportunities to finance infrastructure and modernization projects in key sectors of the economy.
