Uzbekistan conducts works to introduce digital TV broadcasting
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan works on introduction of terrestrial digital TV broadcasting and became one of the first countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States to start introducing digital TV broadcasting.

Uzbekistan started to introduce digital TV in 2007 and the work should be complete by 2015. In 2007, Inverson Technogies SA (Switzerland) and Kurt Mitterfelner GmbH (Germany) supplied first digital TV equipment for pilot zones in Tashkent and Bukhara.

In 2008, first two transmitters were installed Tashkent and Bukhara. Recently, the second transmitter was installed in Tashkent city. In 2010, it is planned to supply three more transmitters for Tashkent and Samarkand cities and conduct tender for supply of four more transmitters for other cities of Uzbekistan.

Currently, 25 channels are broadcasted in Tashkent and their number will soon increase to 42.

Local company TelMax Electronics started to produce Set-Top-Box tuners, which help subscribers to access free and premium channels.

TelMax Electronics currently is conducting project on launch of production of Set-Top-Box tuners at Navoi free industrial and economic zone. The capacity of the plant will be 50,000-60,000 tuners a year.
