Uzbekistan approves list of wild animals banned for private ownership

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The government of Uzbekistan has approved a resolution aimed at improving the protection of wild animals.

The resolution includes a list of wild animals that private individuals are prohibited from keeping in semi-wild conditions, artificial environments, or captivity. The document also establishes the rules for keeping such animals by legal entities.

Starting from 1 January 2025, private individuals will be banned from keeping wild animals on the approved list in semi-wild conditions, artificial habitats, or captivity. Additionally, the use of these animals for performances in state-run and traveling circuses will be prohibited.

Wild animals on the approved list can only be kept in zoos and specialized breeding centers (such as terrariums, aquariums, and serpentariums) operated by legal entities authorized by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change.

Wild animals listed in the Red Book, including venomous and rare species, can only be kept in specialized breeding centers in strict accordance with current legal standards.
