Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 October, the Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Jasurbek Choriyev, met with Roberto Echandi, the Senior Trade Specialist at the World Bank and Project Leader.

During the meeting, they discussed the World Bank’s assistance to Uzbekistan in its process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO). Specifically, they exchanged views on the development of Uzbekistan’s transport sector and the alignment of laws with international standards.

The World Bank will provide expert assistance to Uzbekistan in implementing transport reforms and will support necessary changes in legislation.

Participants discussed issues related to the development of railway transport and increasing freedoms for carriers. They also reviewed the processes for obtaining permits for carriers and Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft.

Cooperation with the World Bank will enable Uzbekistan to access new technologies, knowledge, and financial resources for the advancement of its transport sector.
