Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss joint projects in rail freight transportation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 27 June 2024, the leadership of Uzbekiston Temir Yullari held talks with officials from the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) of Pakistan to discuss cooperation in transport, logistics, and transit trade.

The meeting was chaired by the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzbekiston Temir Yullari H. Rakhmetov. From the Pakistani side, the meeting was attended by NLC Chairman Farrukh Shahzad Rao.

One of the main topics of discussion was the implementation of multimodal rail transport (during the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway Corridor) from Pakistan through Uzbekistan to CIS countries, particularly Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, and other nations. The Pakistani side expressed interest in this proposal, especially given the significant demand for transporting agricultural products.

The Uzbek side highlighted the possibility of using refrigerated wagons for the transport of agricultural fruits, offering favorable terms and discounts for shipments along the specified routes.

The Pakistani side noted that the development of rail transport is a priority direction in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, according to the directive of the head of state. Farrukh Shahzad Rao spoke about NLC’s initiatives to develop regional connections, particularly land transport to Central Asian Republics and other countries in the region. He emphasized that this cooperation would benefit the business communities, strengthening trade relations between Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and other regional countries.

The parties also discussed the construction of logistics facilities, warehouses, and transit terminals in each country. Additionally, an agreement was reached on joint work with NLC in the port of Karachi.

At the conclusion of the meeting, H. Rakhmetov and Farrukh Shahzad Rao signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which outlines several stages of joint work. Plans include expanding cooperation in multimodal logistics, increasing freight transport, and attracting more cargo through both countries.

The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) is a leading multimodal logistics organization in Pakistan, offering comprehensive solutions in multimodal logistics services, cross-border transport, and more.
