Uzbekistan and Lithuania Sign Memorandum on Anti-Corruption Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 8 to 12 July, a summer school on compliance and anti-corruption policy was held in Riga, Latvia.
The training program brought together 20 experts from government agencies in Uzbekistan and Latvia. According to the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, the event was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public governance and anti-corruption mechanisms.
The program covered key topics such as public service ethics, conflict of interest prevention, accountability, compliance, and management of state property. Participants were introduced to European approaches and practices aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in public administration.
As part of a field session in the city of Liepāja, the delegation studied anti-corruption measures implemented by the special economic zone, the customs service, and the South Kurzeme municipality. The training concluded with a visit to the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia (KNAB), where discussions were held on internal controls, anti-corruption law enforcement, and an official meeting took place with representatives of the Jūrmala city administration.
Within the framework of the project, the Uzbek delegation also visited Lithuania. On 11 July in Vilnius, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Uzbekistan’s Anti-Corruption Agency and Lithuania’s Special Investigation Service. The document establishes cooperation in the prevention and fight against corruption, including experience-sharing, internships, joint educational initiatives, and the implementation of advanced European practices.
The summer school was organized by Transparency International Latvia (DELNA) under the project “Enhancing Good Governance in Uzbekistan — Inclusive Corruption Prevention,” supported by the European Union, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Latvia’s Central Finance and Contracting Agency, and the Regional Dialogue organization.
