Uzbekistan and Japan agree to strengthen legal protection for labor migrants
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, including representatives from the Migration Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Japan’s Minister of Justice, Keisuke Suzuki.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the migration sector, focusing particularly on simplifying visa procedures, digitizing administrative processes, and shortening the processing times for entry applications to Japan.
A separate agenda item addressed collaboration to ensure the legal protection of Uzbek citizens working in Japan. An agreement was reached to closely coordinate efforts to combat illegal migration and prevent violations of labor laws.
It was especially emphasized that the stay of Uzbek citizens in Japan must be conducted on a legal basis, with the necessary language skills and strict compliance with Japanese laws and regulations.
Minister of Justice Keisuke Suzuki noted that Japan’s existing technical internship program, along with a simplified visa system for specialists with particular skills, opens new opportunities for Uzbek citizens.
They gain the chance to work in safe and lawful conditions, accumulate valuable professional experience in a highly cultured work environment, and realize their potential.
