Uzbekistan and Iran to expand inter-parliamentary cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 April, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with a delegation led by Hamidreza Hajibabaei, First Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
The sides discussed strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, implementing previously reached agreements, and enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Both parties emphasized the importance of consistently developing friendly relations. It was noted that over the past six years, mutual trade turnover increased 1.7 times, reaching US$497 million in 2024. Currently, 261 enterprises with Iranian investment operate in Uzbekistan.
As a result of the meeting, the sides agreed to establish a systematic dialogue between the parliaments of the two countries and to deepen cooperation in the legislative field. They also decided to expand the list of goods covered under the preferential trade agreement.
