Uzbekistan and IOM discuss migrant rights protection

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 May, a meeting was held in Tashkent between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullaev and the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Arthur Erken.

During the talks, the sides focused on issues of bilateral cooperation in protecting the rights and interests of workers, as well as strengthening international cooperation in the field of migration. Existing cooperation mechanisms and prospects for their further development were discussed.

Special attention was given to the successful organization of the Tashkent International Migration Forum, which became an important platform for discussing current migration policy issues and exchanging experience between countries.

Following the meeting, the sides reviewed the results of joint work and outlined directions for further deepening partnership at the international level, including continued joint initiatives in migration governance and the protection of workers’ rights.
