Uzbekistan Airports implement measures to prevent monkeypox

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following a directive from the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Uzbekistan titled "On Organizing Measures to Prevent the Import and Spread of Monkeypox from Abroad," Uzbekistan’s airports are set to implement a series of sanitary-preventive measures, according to a press release from "Uzbekistan Airports."

In collaboration with the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-being, seminars for airport medical personnel on the etiology, clinical features, epidemiology, diagnostics, and prevention of monkeypox are scheduled for 20–21 August at civil aviation facilities.

Additionally, all international airports in the country have intensified sanitary-preventive efforts aimed at preventing the spread of monkeypox. Airport staff will receive simplified information about the disease, including visual identification of symptoms. Furthermore, thermal imaging cameras, which remotely detect passengers with high temperatures, are being installed and maintained by the sanitary-quarantine service at airports.

The Medical Support Development Department of Uzbekistan Airports, citing WHO data, reassured that the new strain of monkeypox is primarily spreading in African countries that do not have direct flights to Uzbekistan.
