Uzbekistan adopts Museum Renovation Program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Museum Renovation Program will be implemented in Uzbekistan as an experiment.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures for innovative development of the sphere of culture and art in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

The programme envisages introduction of a model for financing of museums based on the principle of self-sufficiency. Within the measures, it planned that the museums should earn at least 30% of its budget themselves, including involving business entities on the terms of public-private partnerships, and not less than 15% of the museum’s budget - at the expense of charitable funds.

The programme will include measures to increase the interactivity of the services provided by improving the infrastructure of museums in accordance with international standards, including introduction of "smart" technologies (information kiosks, 3D visualization and holograms, QR codes, electronic guides in foreign languages, etc.).

Measures will be taken to create an infrastructure for people’s access to museum exhibits, primarily aimed at the younger generation, using the Internet, wide introduction of innovative information technologies into the activity of museums and the digitization of museum exhibits.

President of Uzbekistan commissioned measures to improve the administrative structure of museums to improve the quality of services provided.

The resolution noted that the heads of museums will be hired on the basis of an open competition.

The President instructed to ensure the integration of museums in the public space with a view to popularizing and promoting the country’s cultural and historical heritage.

The program will be implemented in the Museum of Applied Arts of Uzbekistan (Tashkent), the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan them. I.Savitsky (Nukus) and the House Museum of Aibek (Tashkent).
