Uzbek Senate approves Concept of foreign policy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senators approved a law “On approval of the Concept of foreign political activity of Uzbekistan” on 30 August 2012. The law was submitted by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov as legislative initiative.

Senate members noted that the concept is single system of views, which determine fundamental principles and strategic priorities of foreign policy of Uzbekistan, tasks and goals at international arena, mechanisms of promotion of national interest of Uzbekistan for mid- and long-term perspectives.

Senators said that adoption of law will help to strengthen independence and sovereignty of Uzbekistan, further strengthen its place and role in international arena, help to enter to list of developed democratic states, create security, stability and good neighborhood around Uzbekistan.

The document said that Uzbekistan reserves right to join unions, commonwealths and other intergovernmental establishments and exit them based on interests of the state, people, its well-being and security.

"Uzbekistan is pursuing a peaceful policy and does not participate in military-political blocs, reserves the right to withdraw from all of interstate establishments in the event of their transformation into a military-political bloc," the document says.

The country also does not allow on its territory the stationing of foreign military bases and facilities. Uzbekistan does not participate in peacekeeping operations abroad, according to the concept.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov submitted the document to the parliament of Uzbekistan as legislative initiative on 13 July 2012. Legislative Chamber passed it on 31 July 2012 and submitted to Senate for consideration.
