Uzbek Senate adopts law to cut presidential term to five years
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved a law “On introduction of amendments to article 90 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan”, which envisages decreasing presidential term.

The law was approved at the seventh plenary session of the upper house of the parliament of Uzbekistan, which is taking place in Tashkent.

The law “On introduction of amendments to article 90 of the Constitution of Uzbekistan” has been submitted by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

In line with the presidential law, the President of Uzbekistan will be elected for five-year term. Earlier, the President of Uzbekistan elected for seven years.

Senators underlined that adoption of the law will be next step of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.
