Uzbek, Russian FMs hold negotiations in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held negotiations with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on 18 December 2012.

The sides discussed actual issues of bilateral relations, current state and perspectives of foreign political and trade-economic relations between Russia and Uzbekistan.

After the negotiations, Sergei Lavrov said that the side discussed all spheres of bilateral cooperation, taking into account results of recent session of intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. He said that the session of intergovernmental commission achieved progress in several directions of cooperation.

Russian official said that several documents are prepared to sign, including a draft agreement on protection of investments and two large programmes on economic, humanitarian and scientific-technical cooperation for next several years. The sides are preparing other industrial agreements. He said that the sides accumulated positive experience, which will soon materialize to signed documents and will come to effect, which will boost bilateral ties.

The sides exchanged opinion on regional issues in context of withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan. He said that the sides have common views on the issue. Tasks, put by the resolution of the UN Security Council and on which international forces operate, are not implemented, Lavrov said.

Russian Foreign Minister said that drug trafficking is not decreasing, but growing, and terrorism threat does not disappeared. He said that Central Asian neighbors can feel it. He said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should work on strengthening borders along Afghanistan. The SCO adopted Anti-drug concept, corresponding programmes, and Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure operates. He said that two sides considered use of these mechanisms to decrease terrorism and drug threats from Afghanistan.

Sergei Lavrov said that the sides exchanged opinion on mutual interaction within the UN. He said that both sides support initiatives each other. The sides also considered interaction within the SCO.
