Uzbek President pardons 488 convicts in honor of Eid al-Fitr
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree pardoning 488 convicts in celebration of the sacred holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
This decision reflects the traditional values of the Uzbek people—humanism, compassion, and generosity.
In accordance with Article 109, Paragraph 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the pardon was granted to individuals who have sincerely repented for their actions and demonstrated a genuine commitment to rehabilitation.
Among those pardoned, 100 individuals have been fully released from their sentences, 268 have been granted parole, 34 have had their sentences commuted to a more lenient punishment, and 86 have had their prison terms reduced.
The pardoned individuals include 17 foreign nationals, 37 women, 37 men over the age of 60, 167 young people under 30, including one minor, and 5 individuals previously associated with banned organizations.
To support their reintegration, government agencies have been tasked with assisting the pardoned individuals in returning to their families, facilitating their social adaptation, employment, and reintegration into society.
