Uzbek President Islam Karimov receives OSCE chief
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis at presidential residence Oqsaroy on 1 June 2011.

Welcoming the guests, Uzbek President said that Audronius Ažubalis is accepted in Uzbekistan not only as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, but also as head of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, which has friendly relations with Uzbekistan in various areas.

During the meeting the sides exchanged opinion on the OSCE agenda, Lithuanian chairmanship in the organization, actual regional and international issues.

Audronius Ažubalis underlined that changes to the Constitution of Uzbekistan and national legislation, directed at expanding role of parties, is considered as important step in this direction.

The sides also discussed issues of regional security and stability. The guests highly rated contribution of Uzbekistan in social-economic rehabilitation of Afghanistan, UzA reported.

The sides also considered other issues of mutual interest in the context of reforming the OSCE and development of interaction within the OSCE member states.

In the context of the Uzbek-Lithuanian relations, the sides called for continuing political dialogue in high level, developing inter-parliamentary relations, holding political consultations between the foreign ministries at regular level and expanding contacts. It was noted that there are significant reserves in trade-economic cooperation, including in participation of the Lithuanian companies in creation of high technologic production capacities in Uzbekistan.
