Uzbek President expresses condolences to Philippines

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has sent a letter of condolence to President of the Republic of the Philippines Benigno Aquino due to the numerous human victims brought about by landslides and destructions caused by the typhoon Haiyan, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said.

Typhoon Haiyan (known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda) hit the central part of Philippines last Friday, 8 November 2013.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 1,774 people had been reported dead, 2,487 were reported injured and 82 were missing.

At least 10,000 people are feared to have been killed and thousands of survivors desperately require aid, according to some reports.
