"One should not only excellently fulfill his duties, but also think: ’what else I should pay attention to carry out my duties, what kind of analysis I should be doing, why I do not think about these things’. He should think about preventing some incidents, issues that might be insignificant, but harm us. Perhaps, he should connect his duties with this and I am repeating, he should get to the bottom of issues. People standing on the border should not only protect [their country] using their body as a shield, but should fulfil their duties intelligently. What I mean by intelligently is to have a comprehensive understanding of their duties, asking themselves questions like ’What else should I pay attention to? What is overlooked and so forth.

"What is this that we cross the border everyday. If it was peaceful there and if they respected us. Incidents which happened yesterday, on 26 May, were organized by people who came from there [on 26 May, the Uzbek Prosecutor-General’s Office said that a group of criminals entered Andijan Region from neighbouring Kyrgyzstan]. Who will think about this? There would be no need for the border, if there was a cloudless sky and peace there. But unfortunately, we have to protect ourselves. The yesterday’s event necessitates it. We should protect ourselves," the president said.

The Uzbek president said that a market similar to that in Kyrgyzstan’s Kara Su District could be organized to prevent Uzbek citizens from crossing the border to buy things in that market.
