Uzbek parliament’s lower house holds meeting on freedom of expression
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (lower house) for information and communication technologies and the National Centre for Human Rights organized the meeting between legislators and experts.

It was noted that the first international document that Uzbekistan signed up to after gaining independence - Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted 60 years ago, was an important step towards protecting human rights and interests.

The work carried out on incorporating the declaration’s universally accepted norms into the Uzbek constitution and national legislation is worth special attention. The fact that the observance of human rights was set as the main goal of reforms in our country is clear evidence of this.

Participants in the round table meeting discussed the Universal Human Rights Declaration’s norms on people’s rights to receive and spread information, which are of special importance to journalists.
