Uzbek officials discuss issues of interacting with NGOs
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A workshop directed at improving professional skills of cadres of local administrations on their effective interaction with the civil society institutes started in Tashkent on 27 April.

The event was organized by the Institute for Studying Civil Society (ISCS), Academy for Public and State Construction under the President of Uzbekistan, Institute for Monitoring Current Legislation and USAID (USA).

Experts from the USA, representatives of international organizations, accredited in Uzbekistan, specialists of ISCS, officials from regional administration and others are taking part in the event.

The organizers noted that the workshop is directed at discussing issues on assisting local bodies in organization of effective interaction with the civil society institutes, raising their potential and efficiency in this direction, improving quality of services, rendered to population. These works are carried out within the Concept on deepening further democratic reforms and forming civil society in the country, vowed by the Uzbek President Islam Karimov.

The participants noted that active work on improving activity of the state bodies, strengthening social-economic reforms, raising their social efficiency are underway in Uzbekistan, which is implemented within the Concept. At the same time, the special attention is paid to close cooperation of the executive power with the civil society in implementation of the programmes on social-economic development of the regions and participation of the civil society institutes in solving social-economic development tasks.

Besides, the local bodies received tasks on determining role and place of NGOs in attracting their unused potential. Experts said that it is important to study experience of foreign states in this direction.

A presentation of project Local Development Initiative of the USAID was held. The initiative is directed sharing the US experience in local management and its main principles, strategic planning, etc.
