Uzbekistan 22/11/2007 Uzbek mission to Brussels briefs on health reforms in Uzbekistan
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels held a briefing on the reforms in the sphere of health in Uzbekistan.

The event was held with the participation of representatives of ministries of health of the Belgian Representatives of EU Commission on public health services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Ministries of Health of the Belgian regions Flanders and Walloon, heads of leading Belgian medical universities and institutes, as well as big companies specializing on manufacturing of the medical equipment participated at the event.

The participants of the event have been acquainted with present situation in the sphere of the public health services, measures taken by the government in this sphere, implementing reforms and programs. In particular, participants were informed with positions of the State program of the Republic of Uzbekistan on reforming system of public health services adopted in 1998, and the Decrees of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov "On measures on further reforming system of public health services" dated 2003 and "On the basic directions of further deepening of reforms and realization of the State program of development of public health services", dated 19 September 2007.

In his comments, president of the International organization on struggle against cancer diseases "INCTR" J.Magraz has noted the fruitful cooperation existed between his organization and Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan. Thus, he mentioned the visit to Uzbekistan which took place in August, 2006, and as bright examples of the results of this visit, he emphasized ongoing consideration on joint projects in the sphere of public health services.

Joost Van Der Meer, executive director of the organization «AIDS Foundation East West» in interview with Jahon news agency expressed full satisfaction with the collaboration in Uzbekistan on realization of projects in the sphere of public health services and has confirmed readiness for further expansion of cooperation.

Marking, that his company works in the Central Asian countries on fight against AIDS, J.Van Der Meer emphasized readiness to cooperate with Uzbekistan in struggle against distribution AIDS among young generation, noting the fact that the government of Uzbekistan attaches priority attention to the issues of children’s public health services.

Patrick Van Ginneken, regional business director of pharmaceutical company Pfizer noted that such events are very useful in informing participants with ongoing reforms in the country.

He has positively valued openness of Uzbekistan to cooperate with foreign partners in the sphere of public healthcare.
