Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Toivo Klaar, to discuss prospects for cooperation.

During the meeting, the EU ambassador praised Uzbekistan’s rapid development across various sectors, which has significantly improved the population’s standard of living. He particularly highlighted the progress achieved in the field of digital technologies.

Minister Shermatov, in turn, emphasized that one of the ministry’s key priorities is to create job opportunities for young people, enabling them to earn high salaries without leaving the country.

The discussion also touched on Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop its information and communication technology sector, given its landlocked status. This has led to a rapid increase in IT service exports.

The minister provided details on ongoing initiatives in the sector, including the One Million Uzbek Coders project.

Shermatov also underscored the importance of expanding cooperation with European countries, taking into account the specific characteristics of the European market.

Additionally, both sides explored potential partnerships in telecommunications, including joint projects to provide high-speed internet access to remote regions using modern satellite communication systems.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their gratitude and optimism for the successful implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects in the near future.
