At the meeting the sides discussed the issues of terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, organized crime, the fight against proliferation of weapons of mass destruction as well as issues of securing stability in the region.

Islam Karimov said: "We consider your visit to Uzbekistan, first of all, as a significant event in the relations between the USA and Uzbekistan and, secondly, as a good opportunity to discuss and exchange views on issues of mutual interest, above all, in the military and technical spheres."

As it was noted, the fight against extremism, drug trafficking, terrorism and some other international threats are among priority objectives of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. In this regard, Uzbekistan is prepared to develop close cooperation in this direction with all concerned countries, including the USA.

Admiral William Fallon expressed his sincere gratitude to the president for the warm welcome and said both sides would equally benefit from developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

During his visit to Uzbekistan, the high-ranking guest also met the secretary of the National Security Council under the president of Uzbekistan, the foreign and defence ministers and the commander of border troops. At the meetings the sides exchanged views on the current condition of and prospects for bilateral relations in military and other spheres of mutual interest.
