Uzbek President Islam Karimov today received International Communication Union [ICU] Secretary-General Hamadoun Toure at the Oqsaroy presidential residence.

This is Hamadoun Toure’s first visit to Uzbekistan as the secretary-general of the International Communication Union. During the reception of Hamadoun Toure, Uzbek leader noted that Toure as a leading specialist in telecommunications has contributed a lot to the development of relations between Uzbekistan and the International Communication Union.

Islam Karimov said: "You already visited Uzbekistan in 1999 and 2005, but today we are happy to welcome you as the head of the organization. We are glad to welcome you not only just as a leading specialist in telecommunications and as a person who does a lot to develop this sphere, but also as a person who, according to our view, cherishes warm feelings towards Uzbekistan. Therefore, let me in your person express my respect to the organization and primarily to you, who is responsible for developing telecommunications almost in the entire world."
