Uzbek leader awards citizens for their assistance to Kyrgyz refugees
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree on awarding group of citizens from Andijan region foe their contribution at rendering humanitarian aid to victims of tragic events in southern Kyrgyz Republic on 5 July 2010.

The decree said that group of activists, representatives of the state and public organizations of Andijan region were awarded for their practical demonstration of humanism, generosity, mercy and self-sacrificing work at rendering aid to needy people, contribution to peace and stability of Uzbekistan.

The list included 55 people, including activists and workers of various state and public structures, including law enforcement bodies of Uzbekistan. In line with the decree, they will receive orders “Fidokorona hizmatlari uchun”, “Mehnat shuhrati”, “Dostlik” and medals “Jasorat”, “Sodiq hizmatlari uchun” and “Shukhrat”.

Some 100,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who had fled the tragic events in the south of that country of 11-15 June, were received by Uzbekistan and temporarily placed in Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions.

Uzbekistan opened its borders for peaceful population and created necessary conditions for their staying in the country. Fifty refugee camps were created at the border areas and refugees received food, medical and psychological support.
