Uzbek energy companies exempted from court fees in debt recovery cases

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 February, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law exempting thermal and electricity suppliers from paying state fees when filing lawsuits to recover outstanding debts for services rendered, the Ministry of Justice reported.

Previously, the Senate highlighted that low payment discipline among energy consumers negatively affects the financial stability of energy supply companies. This issue limits their ability to promptly recover receivables and reduces the quality of services provided.

Amendments to the Law On State Duties stipulate that companies supplying heat and electricity are exempt from court fees when submitting claims, petitions, and appeals in civil and economic courts for debt recovery. However, if their claims are fully or partially rejected by the court, the companies will be required to pay the state fee.

Additionally, the document clarifies that representative offices of foreign commercial organizations operating in Uzbekistan must now pay an annual state fee for accreditation with the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade.
