Economy 26/08/2009 Uzbek-Czech commission discuss issues of booting cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An Uzbek-Czech intergovernmental commission on trade-economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation held a session in Tashkent on 25 August to discuss issues related to developing mutual beneficial cooperation.

Representatives of ministries and departments, companies of trade, fuel-energy, banking-finance, agriculture, food, chemical, textile, machinery, tourism, and other sectors of two states participated at the meeting.

Nasriddin Najimov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, said the cooperation between two countries is developing gradually in all sectors.

Mr. Milan Hovorka, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, noted that the Czech Republic intends to develop cooperation with Uzbekistan in all directions. The commission discussed perspectives of development of trade-economic, industrial and scientific-technical collaboration between Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic, including cooperation in trade, fuel-energy, banking, agriculture, transport, machinery, electronics and other industries.

The Uzbek side called the Czech counterparts to participate in privatization process in Uzbekistan, increase number of joint ventures and mutual trade turnover, develop and realize perspectives projects. The Czech delegation visited several ministries and departments in Uzbekistan and discussed issues on broadening cooperation scale.

As earlier reported, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic signed on Monday, 24 August 2009, a protocol on introduction of changes to the agreement between two states on mutual encouragement and protection of investments.

The agreement between Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic on mutual encouragement and protection of investments was signed in Prague, the Czech Republic, on 15 January 1997.

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic grew from US$2.9 million in the first half of 2008 to US$57.3 million in the same period of 2009.

At the same time, exports of Uzbekistan increased from US$0.9 million in January-June 2008 to US$21.6 million in January-June 2009. The Czech Republic exports to Uzbekistan jumped from US$2 million in the first six months of 2008 to US$35.7 million in the same period of 2009.
