Uzbek capital hosts event on protection of human trafficking victims
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A consultative meeting within the project “Strengthening potential of the Central Asian states, necessary for protection of human trafficking victims and illegally imported migrants, especially women and children, as well as rendering assistance to them in cooperation with NGOs and civil society” was held in Tashkent on 23 October 2012.

The consultative meeting was organized by the Regional Office of the UN Office on Drug and Crime in Central Asia within the regional project, which is financed by the European Union and the US Government.

The event comprised of two parts – roundtable “Improvement of mechanisms of cooperation between state bodies and civil society institution in protection and support of human trafficking people and illegally imported migrants” and a meeting on summing up results of the UNODC project for 2011-2012 and agree work plan for 2013.

The roundtable was aimed discussing existing mechanism of cooperation between the government bodies and civil society institutes, as well as proposals on their improving.

The consultative meeting is aimed at ensuring transparency of implementation of the projects and line with the project document. UNODC in cooperation with National Inter-departmental Commission on fighting human trafficking under the Prosecutor-General’s Office held meeting to discuss a report on project implementation from 1 November 2011 to October 2012. It also discussed plans for 2013 based on priority tasks of Uzbekistan in fighting human trafficking.

Representatives of Inter-departmental Commission on fighting human trafficking, Prosecutor-General’s Office, Interior Ministry, Supreme Court, Legislative Chamber, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other state bodies and NGOs participated at the event.
