Uzbek Border Guards Comment on Death of Two Kyrgyz Citizens at the Border
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Border Troops of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan have officially commented on the incident in which two Kyrgyz citizens were fatally wounded on 15 August in the border area of Bostanlyk District, Tashkent Region.
According to the agency, two unidentified individuals were spotted near the Ugam-Chatkal Nature Reserve. They ignored orders from the border patrol to stop and attempted to flee.
“As part of their duties, the border patrol fired several warning shots into the air. The individuals did not comply and continued moving toward the state border,” the Border Troops’ statement reads.
The agency emphasized that firearms were used as a last resort to stop the violators. Despite first aid administered by servicemen, both individuals suffered fatal injuries on site.
During the inspection of the area, border guards discovered a tent, three horses, food supplies, and traces of a third person who had managed to escape. By 31 August, it was confirmed that the deceased were Kyrgyz citizens, and their bodies were handed over to their relatives.
Uzbek and Kyrgyz border agencies jointly inspected the site on 2–3 September. “The review confirmed that the actions of the border patrol were in accordance with Uzbek law, and the Kyrgyz citizens illegally crossed the state border.
The third person managed to escape back to Kyrgyzstan. Agreements have been reached regarding his identification and the implementation of necessary measures,” the Border Troops noted.
Both sides also agreed to carry out explanatory work among residents of border areas and to strengthen joint cooperation in guarding complex mountainous sections of the border.
