Uzbek authorities revise compensation for voluntary surrender of weapons
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has revised the regulations regarding the voluntary surrender of firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
Under the new rules, citizens who hand over unregistered weapons to law enforcement authorities will be eligible for a monetary reward ranging from 5% to 500% of the base calculation value (BCV), which translates to amounts between 18,700 and 1.8 million soums, depending on the type of weapon.
According to the government resolution, the process is organized as follows: a citizen can contact law enforcement agencies or a crime prevention officer and hand over weapons or ammunition. The same day, law enforcement officials accept the items and issue a receipt. A preliminary investigation is then conducted, including ballistic analysis and database verification. The final decision on the payout is made by a special commission.
The amount of compensation depends on the type of weapon surrendered. Rifled and combination firearms (both smoothbore and rifled) are valued at 5 sizes of basic estimated value (1.8 million soums), smoothbore firearms at 4 sizes of basic estimated value (1.5 million soums), and non-barreled firearms at 3 sizes of basic estimated value (1.1 million soums).
Airguns will be compensated at 1 size of basic estimated value (375,000 soums), while key firearm components—such as barrels, bolts, magazines, or receivers—will be valued at 75% of basic estimated value (281,000 soums). Bladed cold weapons, including swords, rapiers, and sabers, will be compensated at 50% of basic estimated value (187,000 soums), while stun guns and other electroshock devices will receive 30% of basic estimated value (112,000 soums).
The surrender of signal weapons will be rewarded with 25% of basic estimated value (93,700 soums), gas canisters and aerosol sprays with 15% of basic estimated value (56,200 soums), and each individual round of ammunition will be compensated at 5% of basic estimated value (18,700 soums).
